SMS Terms

Last updated: 2026-05-13

GitHat Inc. (“we”, “us”) uses SMS to deliver one-time verification codes for account sign-in and account-security changes only. These terms cover what we send, how to opt in, and how to opt out.

What we send

We send 6-digit verification codes from the toll-free number +1 (855) 958-5693 when:

  • You enable SMS-based two-factor authentication on your GitHat account.
  • You sign in to an account that has SMS-based two-factor authentication enabled.
  • You change a security-sensitive setting (password reset, recovery codes, email change) and we need to confirm the change came from a device you control.

We do not send marketing or promotional messages over SMS. Ever.

How you opt in

SMS verification is opt-in. You enable it from your security settings by entering a phone number and checking the consent checkbox that reads:

I agree to receive SMS verification codes from GitHat. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.

A confirmation code is sent to the entered number. SMS verification is only activated after you submit that code back to us — so a typo doesn’t register an unrelated phone number on your account.

How you opt out

Three equivalent ways, any one works:

  • Reply STOP to any message from +1 855 958 5693. You will receive one final confirmation message and no more SMS will be sent to that number.
  • Disable SMS verification on your security settings.
  • Email support@githat.io from the address associated with your account.

Reply HELP to any message for help, or email support@githat.io.

Frequency

Codes are sent only when you (or someone attempting to access your account) trigger a sign-in or security-sensitive change. Typical users receive less than five codes per month. There is no recurring schedule.

Carriers

Carriers supported include AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and other US and Canadian carriers. Message and data rates from your carrier may apply. Neither GitHat nor the participating carriers are liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Privacy

Phone numbers used for verification are stored encrypted and are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing. See our privacy policy for the full data handling story.

Changes

We will update this page when our SMS practices change. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of SMS verification after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
